Description This original antique print shows natives of the island of Amsterdam in the southern Indian Ocean. Made by Jakob van der Schley after Jacques Nicolas Bellin. Early engravings from Antoine Francois Prevost: Histoire Generale des Voyages. Vol. 16. These are illustrations were previously published by Francois Valentijn in 1726. Biography engraver: Jakob van der Schley (1715-1779) was a Dutch draughtsman and engraver, who mostly did portrait engravings and frontispieces for books throughout his career.
